Escape from Arcadia
Project Type : Personal / University project
Software Used : Unity 3D
Language Used : C#
Primary Role(s) : Game / Level Designer
Introduction :
Escape From Arcadia is an augmented reality (AR) game that leverages a physical surface, such as a table, to generate a 3D environment. In this game, the player controls an avatar that they must maneuver through the environment while avoiding enemies. They have tools that they can physically place in the environment to aid their progress.
Project Context :
In the 4th year, our goal was to create an augmented reality (AR) game on the Android mobile platform within three months. Using the Unity 3D engine with the Vuforia plugin dedicated to AR, I led the game design and creation of 3D elements.
Project Objective :
The game was to provide a puzzle-solving experience where the player controls an avatar using a virtual joystick. They would navigate through levels while avoiding enemies and overcoming obstacles. The aim was to innovatively exploit augmented reality to solve puzzles.
Project Description :
The game offers both digital and physical controls. The player can move the avatar with a virtual joystick and explore the game space to gather crucial information. Embodied as a spaceship guiding a robot seeking escape, the player must traverse different environments without being detected. They can move, jump, pick up and place objects in the environment, as well as interact with fixed elements. The mobile device's camera allows the player to view the game level in their environment.
Issues Encountered and Solutions Implemented :
Mastering augmented reality presented challenges, requiring numerous tests. Despite improvements to be made, the project was presented with pride, providing valuable experience.
Conclusion :
Escape from Arcadia was a unique experience, marking my first collaboration with AR technology on a mobile platform.
